One of the most popular places to eat in Whitehorse, this fast-paced restaurant looks a bit worn from the outside -- no wonder, as it's in one of the city's oldest remaining buildings (a bakery from 1900) -- but there's nothing old-fashioned about the quality or execution of the food served. Both ribs and chicken are smoked in house and are outstanding, and even standards like beef tenderloin get updated with apricot mustard glaze and fresh pineapple salsa. Fresh wild local salmon is also excellent, as is arctic char and halibut. It wouldn't be northern food without game, and diners should consider wild stroganoff, with bison, caribou, and other wild meats in mushroom and brandy sauce. Even the burgers go northern -- would you like fries with your caribou or musk ox burgers? The dining room is delightfully atmospheric, but the real action is on the two small outdoor heated decks that flank the dining room.

Still bearing the name of its former Madam, this newly restored building from the Gold Rush era served as a mining company's headquarters and residence, a family home, brothel, boarding house, art gallery, and now an historic inn and pub.

Come discover the colourful past of one of Dawson's favourite buildings, an unforgettable place to stay in the heart of the Klondike. They are open year-round and look forward to making your stay a memorable one.

The house, known as Bombay Peggy's was built in 1900 and was located at the north end of town on the northeast corner of Front & Albert Street.

The house has had a series of owners and was used as a mining company's headquarters, a family residence, a boarding house, a brothel, and an art gallery. The name that stuck, "Bombay Peggy's", was the nick name of Margaret Vera Dorval who owned the building in the early to mid- 1950s during which time the house was reportedly a brothel as well as the location of her bootlegging business.

Mile Zero was planned, designed, and built as a B&B in 1995. It incorporates all the most desirable features of both a motel and a B&B. It features spacious rooms, separate entrances, private bath, private telephone, double insulated walls between the rooms for sound proofing, and handicap access, typical of some of the finer motels. It is centrally located and easy walking to everything in town, but in a residential district, which is very quiet.

Mile Zero B&B offers seven rooms so it is very congenial if you like to socialize, and very private if you prefer. They serve a very nice continental breakfast buffet where we encourage guests from all over the world to share trail tales. The host (Tara Mallory) is a born and raised Alaskan.

Whether you travel north up the spectacular and fascinating Lynn Canal (our continent's longest and deepest glacial fjord) or you travel south over the Klondike Highway through the spellbinding White Pass Summit you'll find the City of Skagway nestled in-between towering majestic mountains.

Sgt. Preston's Lodge is a part of Skagway's past along with it's future. Originally an army barracks building for housing officers back in the forties. Sgt. Preston, though factious (some of you may have enjoyed listening to the radio show) was also part of the past, as Skagway is the only US city to actually have a post outside of Canada for what was then known as Northwest Mounted Police. They were posted here to help expedite there own men into the Yukon Territory.

At Sgt. Preston's Lodge, we offer forty new or newly renovated rooms of all sizes and shapes to meet your lodging needs. A touch of the old along with a touch of new. Skagway's recipe to fun and adventure.

At the Skagway Inn Bed & Breakfast, host Innkeepers Karl & Rosemary Klupar, provide warm hospitality as they invite you to enjoy their historic Victorian Inn. Built in 1897, it operated first as a brothel, a family residence, then a boarding house and finally, as a Frontier Country Inn.

In 1897 Skagway was in the midst of the Gold Rush. Stampeders from all nationalities tumbled off steamships in the tiny port of Skagway bound for the Dawson Gold Fields. The rough tent town gave way to boardwalks, streets, framed houses, dance halls, shops and hotels.

To commemorate Skagway's past, the guest rooms are named for the ladies who worked here in “Paradise Alley” of the Red Light District. Turn-of-the-century ambiance helps you soak in the history, mystery and magic of the Klondike Gold Rush.

The Historic Skagway Inn is located downtown within the Klondike Gold Rush National Park Historic District. Easy walking distance to all services and attractions; notably the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad, Days of '98 show, & Skagway Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Skyscraper Trading Post is named for the historic four-storey log building located in downtown Whitehorse, Yukon. The trading post itself is located on the bottom floor of the two-storey log structure that sits directly in front of the Skyscraper. Both buildings were built by Yukon pioneer, Martin Berrigan in the 1940's. With the Alaska Highway construction and the presence of the armed services in the Yukon, rental accommodation was scarce. Martin wanted to retire and the rental of the buildings was his retirement income.

Unfortunately Martin did not live long enough to reap much of the benefits of his labors as he died shortly after he finished building them. Since then, the property has gone through no less than 12 owners.

In January 2000 by order of council, they were officially designated as a Municipal Historic Site. The structures are one of the most photographed in the Yukon Territory

The Trading Post offers the shopper anything from a full-size lynx fur to a genuine Klondike gold nugget or rhinestone tiara. It is operated by the husband and wife team of Gus Karpes and Irene Pugh - commonly known as Karpes and Pugh. Both are Yukon pioneers and have lived in the territory for most of their lives.

    Spirit Lake
Located in the Watson River Valley, eight kilometres north of Carcross, this colourful lake drains into the Watson River. Well-known for its lake trout fishing, it was called "Mbédé Méne" (rainbow/trout lake) or "Looge Zhaazhe" (little fish) in the language of the native Tagish people. The first usage of Spirit Lake was during World War II, when the beauty of the colourful lake was said to exemplify the spirit of the north.

THE WHITEHORSE FISHWAY—2 Miles Canyon Road—(Whitehorse, Yukon Territory Y1A 6S7 Canada)—866-926-3749—867-393-5300business@yukonenergy.ca—Other things to do while attending the RIDE YUKON MOTORCYCLE RALLY

The Whitehorse Fishway has been rated the number one visitor attraction in Whitehorse. It is also a favoured destination for local residents, many of whom return repeatedly throughout the season.

For thousands of years, hundreds of Chinook salmon - born several years earlier in the Yukon River's tributaries – have left the Bering Sea and returned to their natal stream to spawn. The salmon laid their eggs in the gravel, these eggs hatched and new salmon grew in the glacier-fed waters. The young salmon made their way back to the ocean, only to return in a few years to begin the cycle anew.

The cycle continued, uninterrupted, until the late 1950s, when the Northern Canada Power Commission (NPCP) built the Whitehorse Rapids Hydroelectric Dam to meet the electricity needs of a growing community. In 1959, the Whitehorse Fishway was built to help this ancient migration continue. In 1983 and 1984, the Whitehorse Fish Hatchery and a salmon transplant program were started in a further effort to build and maintain the salmon stocks.

THE WHITEHORSE TROLLEY—5 Sage Place—(Whitehorse, YT Y1A 5T9 Canada)—Other things to do while attending the RIDE YUKON MOTORCYCLE RALLY

Trolley 531 was bought by the Government of Yukon in the fall of 1999 for $85,000, from the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth, Minnesota. They had acquired it in 1978 from the city of Lisbon, Portugal, where she had worked in the city's transit system since being built in 1925 by the Santa Amaro Works of Lisbon Electric Tramways, Ltd.

The total cost of the trolley after restoration is about $156,000, a bargain by most people's reckoning. Narrow gauge equipment is very uncommon, but so are the tracks to run them on, so prices are relatively low - a standard gauge trolley would cost 2-3 times that amount. The restoration, as well as the brokering of the purchase, was done by Tom Mendenhall's Historic Railway restoration company, based in Seattle.

Whitehorse now appears to have the furthest-north operating narrow gauge trolley in the world. Theoretically, the 10-tonne trolley can do 74 kmh, but in Whitehorse she just cruises along at a fraction of that - this isn't meant to be a commuter express, after all.

Trolley Number 531 can seat 24 people, and was originally licensed to carry 45 passengers including standees.

Cheeky's is located in beautiful Palm Springs, nestled between the glorious San Jacinto mountains & a world-renowned agricultural belt. This exceptional agricultural resource is the inspiration for our food. They strive to serve seasonal, locally grown, & preferably organic food. They change the menu weekly to adjust to whatever is the freshest in the markets. They also believe food shouldn't come ready made, so they make all of the batters, sauces, and dressings themselves.

To complement your meal, enjoy one of the house-made beverages such as watermelon agua fresca, antioxidant smoothie with acai berry, pomegranate, & blueberries, or a Pomegranate Mimosa! Or try a carafe of our fresh-squeezed orange juice.

All of the pastries are baked on premises. The pastry chef Deb Menduno creates an array of delights ranging from cookies to cakes, from old-fashioned doughnuts to the house specialty, croissant cinnamon rolls. Unless you give us a wish list, the bakery section is up to Deb's whim and mood (and lucky us!).

The challenge? Build an interesting restaurant in an expansive second floor space that includes outdoor seating in historic Downtown Palm Springs! The Matchbox experience takes place in an engaging atmosphere designed and custom-built by the partners themselves. They invite you to explore an array of features & décor made from rustic stone, distressed metals, finished woods and vintage brick.

What makes a great pizza? It starts with a great oven! It is an authentic wood- fired masonry oven where the fire has burned constantly since the day it opened. Modern gas & electric ovens cannot produce the intense heat needed - over 800 degrees - to achieve the crispy, smoky crust that th oven provides. With dough made fresh daily in-house, our goal is to make the best pizza in the desert!

In the mood for something a little fancier? The famous mini-burgers, pan-seared snapper, pecan chicken or the dijon pork chop? The chef's dishes are simply & classically prepared! You’ll find the appetizers and entrees well seasoned and hearty, never bland.

THE BRASS RAIL INN—3188 Redwood Drive—(Redway CA. 95560)—707-923-3188 HOTEL—707-923-7146 INN—707-923-1975 FAXbrassrail@asis.com—The Brass Rail Inn was built in 1922 as the home of two sisters. Before long, they converted it into a Tea Room. In 1939, the business was sold to a San Franciscan, who then remodeled the Tea Room & upstairs bedrooms into a very profitable, though rather risqué business venture: a brothel. In 1944 the business sold and was converted into a dinner house.

After passing through the hands of several owners, it was then purchased by Jeanne Johnson in 1978.

The restaurant has beautiful redwood interiors, hand carved ceiling beams, and antiques built from the famous old growth redwood forests. In addition Jeannie inherited a "friendly ghost", who she nicknamed George. The spiritual being is said to be a bit of a prankster, and has been seen by some of the more enlightened customers.

In 1996, the Brass Rail Inn was passed on to Jeannie's son, Fred Davis, who has carried on the tradition of his historical inn and world class restaurant.

The Brass Rail Inn of today offers you the finest food, wine, and spirits in a cozy atmosphere nestled in the heart of the Redwood country.

The kitchen boasts choice cuts of beef (our house specialty is baby back ribs) and lamb, fresh locally caught seafood, along with poultry and pasta dishes. You will find daily specials, featuring such epicurean delights as salmon served with an almond-black pepper crust.

There is also a full-service bar with two pool tables and a jukebox for that late-night fun. We also have karaoke on Wednesday and Saturday nights, and pool tournaments on Thursday nights.

Lodging at the Brass Rail Inn The rooms are clean, comfortable & reasonably priced, with queen- and king-size beds and air-conditioning.

A fun friendly tavern – a genuine English Pub… The phrase “Hair of the Dog that bit you” goes back to medieval times when dog bites were common. They could lead to infections & even amputations. It was believed that if bitten, a citizen must find the specific dog, cut off some fur and mix it into a paste to apply to the wound! Today the phrase refers to the next morning hangover. It is commonly held that a drink of the same kind that “bit” you the night before will help cure the hangover. Maybe, maybe not, but after a few you don’t care. The World Famous Bloody Mary is recommend!

Founded in 1978, “The Hair” as she is affectionately known, is not very old as history goes, but she is a veteran of some 25 years of Desert Living. Currently she is residing in the old Ruby’s Dunes Restaurant Building. This building , one of the first ever built in the town, was a favorite “watering hole” for such celebrities as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Peter Lawford, Sammy Davis Jr. & many more, who were traveling between Las Vegas & Palm Springs.

The Rio’s award-winning restaurants take you around the world for an unforgettable culinary experience. You’ll enjoy international inspirations from the Mediterranean to Latin America & Asia, along with all-American favorites & regional seafood.

The Wine Cellar at the Rio Suites Hotel & Casino is Las Vegas's most famous wine bar & retail shop and is home to one of the most impressive public wine collections in the United States.

The Wine Cellar showcases some 50,000 bottles valued at more than $10 million. As you stroll upon rustic rock tile & pass through rock & brick archways, you'll come across rare museum pieces like a bottle of 1800 Madeira from the cellar of Thomas Jefferson or the 1855 to 1990 vertical collection of Chateau d'Yquem, valued at $2 million.

The wine bar at the Wine Cellar is a great, one-of-a-kind experience in Las Vegas, offering more than 100 wines by the glass. For a more "up close & personal" experience, they recommend sitting at the wine bar so you can interact with the fun & professional wine stewards. Or, you may just choose to relax on the luxurious leather couches while you sip a single malt scotch, port or cognac.
